1994 - 1999 / The beginnings...
The band was founded in August 1994 under the former name "Torment".
The first demo tape "Into Hell" was recorded shortly afterwards with a 4-track recorder. Fifty
copies of this tape were made, all of which were sold in no time at all. Only a few cassettes can
still be found among very old fans. Three years had passed since the demo tape and several
live concerts had already been played in the Bitburg area.
Now it was time for the release of their first album. As some of the members had the know-how
and skills, they decided to record the album themselves in a small home studio. So the first
album (Out of Darkness) was recorded and mixed in the summer of 1997 under the direction of
Thomas and Joachim Hotz and under the strict control of Markus Reger. It was released under
the founding name "Torment".
2000 - 2002 / The Wicked Path...
The second album (now already under the
current name "Torment of Souls") "The Wicked
Path" had a long way to go from the first
recording to the release. (That must have had
something to do with the album name)
The recordings were first made in 2000, like
the previous album, in Thomas and Joachim
Hotz's home studio. Shortly before the album
was released, they came into contact with the
owner of the recording studio "Alister
Records", who offered the Band the opportunity to release their new album. The album was
therefore re-recorded there in spring 2001. However, due to an impending change in the studio's
distribution partner, the release was delayed until 2002.
2003 - 2008 / Faces of Death and Beneath A
Dark Mind...
As the cooperation with "Alister Records"
turned out to be not as promising as
expected, the Band decided to record the
next MCD "Faces of Death" on their own again.
Released in spring 2004, this CD included the
song "Die Hure", which was later to become
one of the most popular live songs.
The longplayer album "Beneath A Dark Mind"
was released in 2007. Like its predecessor, it
was recorded and produced by the Band themselves. In addition to the old-school style of
death metal, this album has some special features. The song "Tod in der Sonne" is probably
unique in death metal with its use of a "banjo".
2009 - 2013 / Killing Tools and Zombie
Barbecue...
The MCD "Killing Tools" was recorded in 2009
at the MOS Studios in Bitburg/Germany and
presents Death Metal at its finest. Aggressive
sound and powerful guitar riffs that kill!
With MOS Studio, the band had found a studio
that sounded to their complete satisfaction.
The MCD contains the sequel to "Die Hure".
The last album to date, "Zombie Barbecue",
was also recorded at MOS Studios in Bitburg/Germany in 2013. The fourth full-length album
released in January 2014 is the zombie-influenced death metal answer to the TV-Series "The
Walking Dead", which is also the title of the last song on the album. This album contains a
remake of "Sore Intestines", a song from the early days of "Torment of Souls", which was first
released on the album "Out of Darkness". There is a zombie video clip for the song "Bone Stone
Brain", which is available on YouTube. The Final chapter also concludes the "Die Hure" trilogy.
2014 - 2019 / Live concerts...
After the success of the last CD "Zombie
Barbecue", the Band concentrated from now
on mainly on songwriting and live concerts.
They played at underground events all over
Germany, such as the Cologne Metal Festival,
Siegener Metaller Geballer, Death Shall Rise
and many more.
2020 - Today/ DÄMON...
At the End of 2020, the Lyiric video for the new single "Schlachthaus", which was recorded in
Georg Sander's BlackStone Studio, was released on YouTube.
Shortly afterwards, another video for "Mehr
Hass" followed.
After the Covid pandemic, Torment of Souls
achieved great live success, such as the "End
of Days Festival" and the renowned
"Heidelberg Death Fest".
